Early, September 2008, FK partners around the world will be assembling in Oslo, Norway, to participate in the IV International Council Meeting and FK Seminars. FK has in the past been facilitating exchange between North and South and also South to South for reciprocal learning and Mutual growth. Several FK partners, including the African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) and the Kenyan FK network, dubbed the Network of Fredskorpset Partners in Kenya (NEFPAK) will take part. NEFPAK, the Kenyan FK network that brings together returned and active exchange participated will be represented at the two forums by Bernard Morara - the National Coordinator.
The event is scheduled to take place on 3-8 September 2008. Partners will spend the six days sharing experiences, assessing progress made, challenges and the way forward for the Exchange.
Many thanks to FK for making a bridge for us to meet halfway and share our experiences and problems, get solutions and make our life better.

The Post Election Crisis in Kenya
The post election crisis in Kenya has had far reaching effects to many sectors of the economy in Kenya. Many families have been displaced from their natural homes to the now commonly referred to as internally displaced persons camp (IDPs).
Most worrying though is the effect the crisis has had on children. Children including school going ones have had to discontinue their education, with many now separated and traumatised by the unfolding events.
Although a number of child rights organisations have come in to help, a lot still need to be done since security is still a major concern and prerequisite fro these families to return.
In effect, all concerned parties, including politicians, civil society organisatiions and communities have role to play for children to return to their homes and continue with education and normal life.
This is the wish and cry of many children affected by the conflict in Kenya

ANPPCAN sets up office at Jamhuri IDP Camp
ANPPCAN Regional established an office at the Jamhuri IDP Camp to respond to the needs of children displaced from Kibera informal settlement and adjacent areas owing to the post election violence.
Many other child rights organisations joined ANPPCAN and continue to assist children including offering education, counselling, play theraphy and referral services.
The Office is also coordinates issues related to reporting and tracing of lost children, identification of the specific needs of children and establishing mechanisms of addressing the needs.
So far 55 unaccompanied children have been screened and relocated to SOS Village in Buru Buru in Nairobi.
The office has also been following leads to the effect that unscruplous individuals are out to traffic children in the guise of taking them out of the camp to enrol them in schools.
Only last week, World Vision set up the Child Friendly Spaces near the Children Centre.
ANPPCAN will continue to offer assistance to children at the Camp till the last child leaves and/orand is re-united back with the parents.
